How to Foster Psychological Safety at Work

Why this workshop?

Psychological safety in the workplace refers to a team climate in which staff feel comfortable to express their opinions, admit mistakes, give and receive feedback, suggest improvements and point out problems without fear of embarrassment, punishment or rejection by the rest of the team or their manager. In the absence of it, teams and organisations may be operating in an environment of group think, fake harmony, unreported (costly) mistakes and, overall, a climate of mistrust and lost opportunities. Where fear at work is the dominating factor and people are afraid to speak as they worry that they will be dismissed, suppressed, ridiculed or even threatened, the chances of errors and mistakes increase, while opportunities for growth are reduced. Psychological safety, on the other hand, encourages a team to develop a learning culture in the workplace. This means that staff are encouraged to learn and develop and see errors, problems and constructive feedback as learning opportunities rather than as setbacks.
